Diy here. I will be assisting my nephew in fixing his townhouse ceiling and window wall from water damage. Outside stucco repair and wood replacement.

I just removed shiplap and I need to do some repairs before painting. I have a couple tears, I need to patch nail holes and I need to remove paint that seeped down in between the boards. What order & steps would you recommend?

My friend. I commented on the last video. You must seal the areas with an oil-based primer then mudd or it'll just bubble everytime. I've been down this road. You're sincere but you obviously think that you know it all if you don't listen to other contractors

I had a double atrium door removed from my bedroom outside wall removed, and replaced it with a small window 3' x 2' centered in the middle of the wall where the double door was......the sheet rock that was put in to fill in the hole from the large door is now proud and I don't know how to mud to make the wall flat to the corner of the room on each side of that small widow to the corner of the wall . The wall is about 12- 14 ft long,.......can you help?

Mesh tape does not work in any application. I used it many times and always got cracks in it. I went back to paper tape for everything. Dont even know why they make it

The real damage here is mold caused by moisture exposure to building materials that contain cellulose. It doesn’t go away by letting it dry out, it spreads and creates a contaminant that spreads. To stop the spread, just dry the wetted building materials, to remove it, disrupt the mold root system. Very easily done, just need to be aware of it.

Moisture from the pool definitely a contributing factor but still a priming issue. The purpose of priming is to seal the pores of the substrate material, namely the drywall. The priming would have been absorbed by the drywall and closed the pores so that the paint would have an even surface to adhere to and not saturate the drywall paper. So even with the backside of the drywall being wet from the condensation or external air moisture, what you would have gotten was mold on the backside of that drywall (which may still be there) and if the paint came off, it would have torn the drywall down with it because the paint/prime would have bonded to the drywall. The way you were able to just peel it off like that means it was never bonded to the drywall, just surface level.

Paul, I have learned one Thing about You, that you are one of the Best when it comes to Drywall and Problems. Moisture is a Major Problem with wood or Drywall if You are in the Southeast. Fans that force air out of a House Helps A lot. In the Summer Time Hot Air with Moisture just sits there. I am in the Deep South you. I use Attic Fans to move the flow of air. Fans remove the Stale Hot Air and Moisture too. Great Video. If You live in the Southeast of America You will have lots of Moisture. That is Just Life. 😊😊❤

For some reason this problem was still stuck in my mind.

In addition to the water from evaporation, there could be traces of bleach being carried with the water leaching in. I used to wash my white shoes with bleach, and realized rather quickly that bleach tends to yellow surfaces. Especially the Naugahyde. The stucco walls would be unaffected because the bleach, and water solution can't get behind it, where as, like you said, it has the ability to get behind the drywall, and down into the joints. Unfortunately the only real solution to that problem would be to close off the soffits in that area to prevent further, continuous damage. Since those soffits are designed to vent moisture, and air from the house to allow it to breathe, sealing them would render them useless. However, it's in an area that's built away from the house as an awning type of structure, and it wouldn't need soffits to do that.

I do not know the age of the house but could this Florida house have the drywall from China that was rotted.

Ty for this. How many days should you let a skim coat dry before wallpapering on it? I am trying to wallpaper on a textured wall so wanted to flatten it first with a skim coat to get better adhesion

I’ve used a large hole saw to cut an inspection hole. Very quick and only the center drill bit needs to go beyond the drywall thickness, thus reducing the chances of cutting into a wire, pipe, duct etc.

I have a house built in the 50's, will this work on plaster ceilings as well ?

We had a ply b slab leak and decided to go ahead and replace all the plumbing. There are holes in every room but one, and it's a large house! The plumber saved the drywall cutouts, and my dad taught me how to do it. It's been years, though. Sure wish dad was here.
